Pindo Palm Tree

Butia Capitata

For people who like the Date Palm look but live in northern climates, the Pindo Palm is known for its long arching graceful leaves whose colors range from light green to bluish gray.  In our planting zone the Pindo can grow as tall as 15 to 20 feet and its trunk can vary in girth depending on the amount of daily sunlight it receives. The trunk is considerably thick with a distinctive tropical pattern leading up to a crown that is made up of prior old growth leaves.  It is nicknamed the jelly palm because it produces a delicious fruit that can be converted into a jelly.  The Pindo is a fast growing palm that can turn heads and ad atmosphere wherever you choose to plant it.
